Steve Gibson Landscape For Lon 2019 gouache and ink on paper 30" x 22"
Lon Spiegelman was a friend of mine when I lived in Los Angeles in the early 70's. We often traded work and had studio visits with each other. His main interest was networking with Mail Art to artists all around the world. His was a self trained artist and his drawings were humorous, witty and obsessive. While I was doing this drawing I felt like I was channeling Lon. I lost contact with him and his lovely wife over the years but always remember fondly our meetings and discussions. Unfortunately he has passed as well as his wife Linda. Much too early for such wonderful people. They were survived by a son who was born after I had moved on. I hope he cherishes his dads contribution to the art world of the 70's and 80's. I know I do.
