I have posted Ellen Siebers work before on this blog. This painting interests me because of it's seemingly minimal content and straight forward paint handling. I enjoy the quality of light and the implied forground and middle ground she achieves with such grace in such a small format. To me, it implies so much more that it would appear at first sight.

I often reference older work while working on my current paintings. It is part of a continuum regarding my thoughts, feelings and daily ruminations. One consistent is the iconoclastic approach to each effort. Building and destroying then reconstituting to find new solutions to each new problem I set for myself. Complicating, simplifying each step as I feel my way.

Wilkes work references OP ART, Chicago Imagists, and simple geometry.
Her well crafted paintings are intriguing to me because of the hand made
quality and the interesting use of color. Highly saturated hues combined with
pastels in unusual combinations give the work a wonky kind of come hither
quality. Solid.

Ruth Freeman is a Bay Area artist who uses bold strokes of color to build her
richly colored compositions. This well thought out work gives the viewer an
opportunity to see how an artist can use deceptively simple forms with straight
forward paint handling to make complex and intriguing painting. There must be
something in the water in the East Bay since Kimberly Rowe and Seren Moran
are from the same area.

I came across Seren Moran's work on Curating Contemporary's website. She was part of a 3 person online exhibition curated by painter/curator Kimberly Rowe whom I have posted here before. I was not surprised at the quality of the work knowing Kimberly as well as Brian Edmonds the host of Curating Contemporary, they are both excellent painters in their own right.
Morans abstract work is rooted in her ongoing search for relevance of abstract painting in todays multifaceted approach to art making. Judging from her work, she has found a voice in the continuing discussion about painting today.
