Carlson Hatton is the son of a long time friend of mine. He is having a wonderful one person exhibition of his paintings at Santa Monica College in Santa Monica, Ca. I have been privileged to view his development as an artist for over  20 years now and have enjoyed ever step along the way. I have also included him in online exhibitions at the Torrance Art Museum (on view now) as well as that will be on view next month.

Annie Lapin

Annie Lapin  That Looks In and Out  2013  oil and acrylic enamel spray-paint on canvas
82" x 78"

Stopped by Honor Fraser in Culver City yesterday and got the opportunity to see some wonderful new paintings by L.A. painter  Annie Lapin. These are exceptional works and a big step forward in her practice. Another example of a painter pushing boundaries and unwilling to rest on her past achievements. Exciting to see this work have a forum in L. A.
Congratulations to both the artist and gallery for exhibition.

Brian Edmonds

Brian Edmonds  Run To The Fields  2013  acrylic, paint stick and pastel on board 48" x 36"

Brian Edmonds is an artist based in Huntsville, Alabama. He also coordinates an online gallery called Curating Contemporary where curators and artists come together to show related works and projects on the internet.
His work is similar to a lot on young abstract painters today in that he develops a personal or subjective approach to abstraction. He acknowledges paintings history and at the same time pushes his work to reflect his individual experience and interests.

Jim Nutt

Jim Nutt  Trim  2010  acrylic on linen with mdf frame  25 3/8" x 24 3/8"
Beautifully painted and sometimes taking months to complete, Nutts current works are more austere than his early works. One things remains constant however and that is his wonderful drawing ability. He is still my favorite commentator on the human condition.

Vicky Wright

Vicky Wright  Guardians LVlll   2011   oil on panel   31.5" x 25.6"
Was in LA yesterday to visit friends and attend the LA Contemporary Art Fair.
I was under whelmed by the fair for the most part with the exception of the
Josh Lilley Gallery from London and the Kansas Gallery from NYC. Both showed
interesting painting that seemed fresh and interesting to me. Josh Lilley was
freaturing Vicky Wright's paintings on panel. These were the best paintings that
I saw during my walk through the 50 or so booths. Good UK painters seem
to have a grasp on contemporary painting that usually acknowledges their ante-
cedents while pushing boundaries. Wright certainly does.
