Zak Prekop is exhibiting a new group of paintings opening March 27th at
Thomas Duncan Gallery. I like Prekops work because of the mystery it
evokes when I view them. They remind me a bit of Charlene von Heyl's work
in that they are beautifully painted and seem spontaneous yet thought out.
I am always asking "how did he do that" when viewing his work but ultimately
give in and just enjoy the experience.

I am attracted to Masullo's painting because he is so persuasive. His seemingly
simple (they are not) compositions and no nonsense color use on small format
canvas or panel demand more than a cursory viewing. I am glad to see he is
getting the attention he deserves as he has tenaciously held steady to his
view of what painting could be for the past 20 years.

I like Abel Auer's painting but more than that I like his attitude. When asked about his shifting towards a surrealist informed abstraction. He retorted "I don't see a difference between abstract and representational any more. It's more of a jumping around."
His portraits, landscapes and semi-abstract works defy what writers and critics want thematically. There are hints of Paul Klee and others but his work is uniquely his.
