I like Abel Auer's painting but more than that I like his attitude. When asked about his shifting towards a surrealist informed abstraction. He retorted "I don't see a difference between abstract and representational any more. It's more of a jumping around." His portraits, landscapes and semi-abstract works defy what writers and critics want thematically. There are hints of Paul Klee and others but his work is uniquely his.
