I love the charm of this relatively small work, created over a two year period, with both light and dark underpainting and translucent color breathing in a semi symmetrical composition , but I fear her work has become more flat and mechanical as she has scaled up huge "museum" paintings and perhaps overproduced to please the art market.
Interesting observations Douglas. Market forces can be an impingement to an artists growth. She also seems to have spawned a large group of imitators over the years.
I love her use of black here!
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree Cathy. She uses it sparingly and it lets the painting breath without becoming too illustrative.
