Becky Yazdan 2015 Shadows In The Asylum oil on linen on panel 12" x 12"
beckyyazdan.com
When I look at Becky Yazdan's painting they take me to a place at once familiar and also disconcerting and strange. I enjoy her straight forward approach painting. She is not overly facile or glib and nothing seems formulaic as she coaxes her abstract world into existence. The work feels hard fought for and rigorous in it's execution. One is enticed to contemplate each element of the visual encounter.

Erik Neff

I have been following Erik Neff's work for a while now. This is the second post of his work I have posted. His layering of paint with translucent and opaque pigments lend an atmospheric quality to well constructed paintings. He leaves just enough unsaid as he alludes to architecture, landscape and pure abstraction.

I came across Ross Gash's work and was immediately entranced with
his mastery of color and drawing ability. I like the way he turns landscape
on it's head, taking abstraction to an unfamiliar but exciting place.

Brian Edmonds
Brian Edmonds Slinging Bones 2015 9" x 12" acrylic on handmade paper
Edmonds is a painter from Alabama. He also authors a blog and administers Curating Contemporary an on line gallery for artists to curate exhibitions. His energy must be boundless since he also has time to paint incredible works like the one posted today.
His enthusiasm is infectious as it has enabled so many other artists to connect with each other with his curatorial efforts and open heart.

The seed from which so much current painting has developed. Love the color, texture, pattern and more than that the reason why they are what they are.

Chuck Webster
Chuck Webster Untitled 2012 oil on panel 14" x 18"

I like the way Webster paints. His work appears to be ham handed at first glance but his compositions and color combinations reveal an elegance and authenticity that engage and inform the viewer at a gut level. These abstract tropes have a feeling of contemplation and urgency at the same time.
