Steve Gibson
Steve Gibson Leaving Grand Teton's 2018 gouache on paper 30" x 22"

Drawing is the basis of my work as an artist. I am continuing to explore the fecund reaches of my mind as I reflect on my history and experiences in this unusual place we call the world. My dreams are a mish mash of youthful exuberance entwined with the sad fact that I am not that which I once was. The work that comes from those dreams and aspirations are the ladder that I continue to climb.

Alan Davie
Alan Davie 1920-2014 Invitation to Join The Dance 2012 oil on canvas
jameshymangallery.com
I have posted Alan Davie many times before on this blog. He is touchstone for me from the early 60's when I first was introduced to his work by a professor and friend at SDSU. I identified with Davie's sense of color, iconography, and joyful approach to making paintings and drawings. To me, he was the Scottish Krishna. His use of universal symbols, text and exuberant color as he followed his own distinctive path made him a shaman for me.
Davie passed away at the age of 93 after a long and productive career.
