Thomas Nozkowski
Thomas Nozkowski R 4 2001 oil on museum board 12 3/4" x 15 3/4"
michaelbergergallery.com
Thomas Nozkowski makes wonderfully evocative abstract paintings, prints and drawings. He usually works on a smallish scale with simple tools like a brush, paint and pencils. What strikes me with his work is the consistency of his vision and modesty of his materials. There is nothing bombastic or over blown with his approach. Each image is worked and reworked until it coalesces into a finished piece. The work seems to free associate itself into existence. Although the work is complex the finished piece never seems labored over, it is as if he willed them into the world and we, the viewers. are the beneficiaries.

Eric Shaw
Erik Shaw Now Wrong Way 2016 acrylic on canvas 48" x 36"

Shaw has the unique ability to blend high design with witty approaches to abstraction. I have posted his work before and am looking forward to seeing where this talented artist is headed.

William Conger
William Conger Evening Beach 2015 oil on wood 16" x 16"

One of Chicago's finest artists, Conger continues to make wonderful paintings as witnessed at the Bruno David Gallery in Saint Louis. He just seems to get better with age and is one of a select few painters I wish I had collected when I was in Chicago.

Roger Brown
Roger Brown Bonsai # 5 (Bunjing) 1997 oil on canvas 72" x 48"
kavigupta.com
Roger Brown had one of the most recognizable styles of the Chicago Imagist group. His utopian/dystopian scenes of the world were and continue to be icons of a great imagination and insight into the human condition. His painting skills were off the charts. Gone way too early.
